Hungarian authorities monday have withdrown their decision to ban
the demonstration for peace in Budapest planned for 15th february and
took notice of new track requested by us. In a mail adressed to me on
monday prime minister Peter Medgyessy has "appreciated" inititive for
peace, against the war, writing the following: "I think your goals and
the government's targets are the sames: the preservation of the
peace. For this reason I consider important your action, namely the fact
that hungarian civil society has joined peace movement getting active
around the world. Basic value of national centrist government is the
peace, its fundamental principle beeing policy of peace and social
dialog".
Requested by him a meeting was fixed for thursday, 13th february
with the partecipation of peace movements representatives. We want
to confront him with the facts, pressing him to underpin his words with
concret mesures for the defense of peace, as denie permission to
overfly our territory by american airforce, and so on. We want use the
meeting given opportunity to inform public opinion of the goals of WSF
and ESF and indicate the deep gap existing between words and
peaceful mesures of hungarian authorities.
Today, tuesday we have in Budapest the Peace Forum with the
participation of Churches' and religious communities' representatives.
So Friends, we will be together with You on the streets of Budapest
in the frame of our common action of 15th february. We hope, that
united we can arrest this war and we do all possible to stop it.
